Airman & Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) and Airman's Attic

 

kidThe A&FRC supports and maintains mission readiness by assisting individuals and families with adaptation to the challenges and demands of expeditionary operations and the military lifestyle. Serves DOD military and civilian personnel and families to include Guard and Reserve, other eligible uniformed members, military retirees, eligible family members, and annuitants. Collaborates with Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard to ensure all family members are prepared for the many demands and unfamiliar roles and responsibilities often associated with activation, mobilization, and deployment. Offer proactive, A&FRCpreventive, and remedial services that foster self-sufficiency and sustain the personal and family readiness of the Total Force. Information and education are offered on many aspects of family life and personal growth as well as assessment counseling and referrals. Classes and Events

 

The Airman’s Attic provides gently used clothing, shoes, books, toys, and other household items free to any valid ID card holder E-5 and below (Active Duty, Retired, Reserves), Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.  On Airmans AtticThursdays all military ranks and civilians may use the Airman’s Attic. Stop by and take advantage of this great resource.  We accept donations Monday-Friday during our regular business hours.  Due to limited space, any large items such as furniture can not be accepted at the center but will be posted on “Share board”  describing item. If you would like to volunteer contact Pam at 247-2246.

OSD Announces Resumption of My Career Advancement Acounts (MyCAA)
announces the program will resume on Oct. 25. The program has undergone significant adjustments to ensure program sustainability. Changes include a maximum benefit of $4,000 for a time limit of 3 years to eligible spouses of service members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and 01-02 seeking an Associate's Degree, Licenses and certifications. Bundles for Babies

The Airman & Family Readiness Center would like to invite “expectant parents” to a fun and educational class providing information on welcoming a new addition to your family.  Topics discussed include: the developmental stages, financial planning and the emotional aspects of having a new baby.  Classes are open to all expectant families and those who have had a baby within the past three months.  Military families receive a FREE bundle of baby goodies.  Call

Home Buying Class

Topics include budgeting and credit management, deciding if homeownership is right for you, shopping for a home that meets your needs, obtaining financing, closing the sale, maintaining the home, and handling the mortgage obligation. Completion of this course may qualify you for federal, state, local government, or private mortgage programs.

Moving off Base Briefing

The "Moving Off Base" briefing will ensure that junior Airmen are well  
prepared prior to moving off base.  The class consists of two parts: 
(1)  Classroom presentation on locating an apartment/house, responsibilities and obligations concerning the lease, utilities and other expenses. 
(2)  Preparation of a specific financial summary for each Airman, ensuring sufficient funds to move off base.  Please bring LES and all financial documentation. Call 247-2246 to register.

Operation Homefront Fairchild

Joint Services "Preparedness" Day Movie in the Park. Free, fun-filled "quarterly" event held for families of deployed service members who have, will, or are experiencing the deployment of a loved one. Joint Deployment/Reintegration support resources available on site, as well as related programs (ie. Operation Pillowcase and Flat Daddy/Mommy).

Pre-Deployment Briefing

Personal and Family Readiness provides mobility and deployment assistance to members/families to meet pre-deployment, sustainment, and post-deployment challenges. Services and activities help prepare members/families to successfully manage separations and reintegration, increase individual and family morale and unit cohesion, and support operational readiness.  Each separation is different, thus the   importance of providing sustained support.  Numerous resources are available and provided at this briefing—spouses highly encouraged to attend! 

Pre-Separation Counseling

Attend at least 90 days prior to separation or retirement; required for military personnel; spouse is encouraged to attend. Excellent information and resources to make the decisions critical to the next stage of life. Military service has earned you valuable veterans' entitlements! Learn about your eligibility and how to access services and benefits. Call 247-2246 to register.

R3 Briefing

Return/Reunion/Reintegration (R3) - At the Base Education Center, conducted by the Base Chaplains and Mental Health. Briefing will help re-deployers make a smooth transition to home and work life.

Right Start

Wing leadership welcome to Fairchild AFB. Familiarizes personnel with base & local support services, leisure activities, educational opportunities and mandatory briefings.  Spouse encouraged to attend!

Smooth Move

This class helps military and civilian personnel, and family members, prepare for their upcoming PCS.  Experts from base relocation-related agencies provide information on relocation entitlements and what to expect during your relocation process. Numerous resources are also available. Meets the vMPF requirement for Legal Claims out-processing.  Spouses are encouraged to attend!  Call 247-2246 to register. 

Special Needs Info Fair

Info Fair open to all services highlighting various on and offbase agencies in support of families with special needs.

Sponsorship Training

Annual requirement for sponsors of inbound military and civilian personnel.  Class provides relocation information, education, and resources.  Sponsorship is a commander’s program and is extremely important to the entire Fairchild community.  Informed sponsors make a dramatic impact on new members of Team Fairchild.  A well-prepared sponsor is an important part of mission readiness! 

Transition Assistance Program Workshop

Take the guesswork out of your transition to civilian life!  This four-day workshop assists military members who are six months to two years from their separation or retirement date with planning their transition from the military to civilian community.  Included in the class is information on self assessment, financial preparedness, job search, resume writing, interviewing, and negotiation skills.  Call 247-2246 to register.
