Wood Classes & Details
Discover all of the FUN Courses offered here at Fairchild. Register in person at the Wood Craft Center, or by calling 509-247-5189. Payment is due at time of sign-up.
* Recharge for Resiliency (R4R) program is design to offset the cost of classes for Active Duty Airmen and the immediate dependents.
* All Class sizes are maximum 6 except for Band Saw Box which is max of 4.
* Completion of Pen and Cutting Board Class (Qualification) entitles students to the rest of the month free usage of the Wood Craft Center (next month if class is the last week of the month)
* Fairchild AFB youth ages 10 - 17 years old may take select courses (see details below). MUST be accompanied by a guardian for the duration of the class. (Guardians don't have to register unless they want to learn alongside the child).

Take our Qualification Bypass Test, the express route to accessing our top-notch facilities. It's a breeze, consisting of written and practical tests. Fast-track your journey to becoming a woodworking wizard! The Bypass Test consists of two written and one practical test:

- Shop Safety test

- 42 question Woodworker test

- Hands-On test Price: $50 per person

Basic Pen-Making Class

Unleash Your Inner Woodworker!

Weekend: May 11 or June 1 from 10:30 am - 2 pm

Weekday: May 7 or June 4 from 5 pm - 8 pm

Getting started in woodworking has never been so easy with R4R pricing on the Basic Pen Making Class!

Magic Wand Turning Class

Craft Magic Without Spells!

Weekend: May 18 or June 8 from 10:30 am - 2 pm

The Magic Wand Turning Class is a 1-day, 3 1/2-hour session held at the Wood Craft Center, with a focus on teaching participants how to spin wood on a lathe. If Harry Potter had taken this class, he might not have needed to go to Diagon Alley to purchase his wand. Here are some key details about the class:

Participants: Ages 10+ see * above

Prerequisite: None

Duration: a single, 3 hr session

Price: $15 / person (materials included)

Advanced Pen Making Class

Elevate Your Woodworking Skills!

Weekend: May 25 from 10:30 am - 2 pm

The Advanced Pen Making Class is a 1-day, 3-hour session held at the Wood Craft Center, with a focus on teaching participants how to use advanced techniques using acrylic and other materials. Here are some key details about the class:

Participants: Open to DoD ID Card Holders ages 18+

Duration: a single, 3 hr session

Prerequisite: Qualifications Course.

NOTE: Classes are NOT scheduled every month.

Price: $60 / person (materials included)

Intro to Fine Woodworking

Craft Keepsake Boxes with Secret Compartments!

Weekday: June 11 - 14, from 5 pm - 8 pm

The Intro to Fine Woodworking Hidden Compartment Box Class is a 4-day, 3-hour session held at the Wood Craft Center, with a focus on teaching participants how make a keepsake box with compartment inside with no hardware. Here are some key details about the class:

Participants: Open to DoD ID Card Holders ages 18+

Prerequisite: Qualification Course (both parts)

Duration: 4 days x (3.5 hr classes)

Price: $75 / person - materials not included

Cutting Board Class

Craft and Create Your Culinary Masterpiece!

June 5 - 7, from 5 pm - 8 pm / day

The Cutting Board Class is a 3-day, 3-hour session held at the Wood Craft Center, with a focus on teaching participants how to create unique kitchen tool in the Cutting Board Class. Here are some key details about the class:

Participants: Open to DoD ID Card Holders ages 18+

Prerequisite: Basic Pen Making

Duration: 3 days x (3 hr sessions)

Price: $70 / person - materials included

Basic Bowl Turning Class

Craft Your Own Wooden Bowls!

Open Dates: May 21 - 24 & June 18 - 21, 5 pm - 8 pm

Learn the ancient art of bowl turning on a wood lathe. Craft stunning wooden bowls and add a touch of elegance to your home.

Participants: Open to DoD ID Card Holders ages 18+

Prerequisite: Qualification Course parts 1 and 2" (Pen & Cutting Board Classes).

Duration: 4 days with 3 hour sessions

Band Saw Box Class

Craft Your Own Band Saw Box!

A band saw box is a handcrafted wooden box made using a band saw. The boxes are typically made from a single piece of wood, and their design can range from simple to highly complex.
